Mt.Longonot Hiking & Lake Naivasha Adventure

The mountain is a stratovolcano,It is less than 2780m(9100ft) above sea level,It is located at the south east of lake Naivasha in the great rift valley of Kenya,Africa continent,It is believed to have last erupted in the 1860s .The mountain has small trees that covers the crater floor and small steams vents that are spaced around the crater wall.It has various species of wildlife like giraffe,buffalos,eland,warthogs,zebras among others.

07.15am:Depart Nairobi whereby your journey will take about 1hr 30 mins.You will start with the ascent at 2150m and like all good uphill hikes,this lull you into a false sense of security with a slow gentle rise to the first hill.It will give your lungs and limbs free up for the second section,then you can have a rest for every end of the section you will have a resting point ,so that you can prepare yourself for the next journey,you can still have your packed lunch here.

At this second section,you have to be medically fit,for it is not an easy hike,on finishing the second section you will be at the rim of the crater ,where there is another respite of slightly less demanding terrain before the final hike on the fourth section,which is the final climb,this again will be a demanding section but not as in the second section,As you heave over the rim of the crater you will have agood slight of Naivasha and the great rift valley with a good feeling of a winner.

The hiking is about 8-9 km long but very steep,which takes around 3-4 hours.Mt Longonot is the best hiking trip for those who may want to face bigger mountains like Mt .Kenya or Mt .Kilimanjaro,You will then proceed to Lake Naivasha ,the highest and fresh water Lake in rift valley,where many activities like boat riding at the cresent island staging of Imperial Airways flying boat services from Durban to London in 1930s.Drop off to Nairobi at around 5.30 pm
